Resumen

The paper presents some preliminary results associated with healthcare professionals regarding the ‘working environment’ dimension for the case of healthcare centres in Mexico. The results show that: a). 11.6% of the participants (when considering the participants of the four hospitals) considered the lack of necessary training of the new staff. Interestingly, about 25% considered that they have all the necessary information to perform their duties; e.g. diagnostic and therapeutic; b). Similarly, a very low percentage of the participants (13.6%) considered that the hospital’s decision-makers constructively solve the problems generated by doctors and employees; c). Over 50% considered that the medical equipment is their area of work is adequate; d). 31% considered that feedback information from incident reports help for improvement in the quality of healthcare; e). When considering hospitals individually, Hospital-A had a better opinion regarding the issue associated with the availability of the necessary information to support diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making; the worst opinion was given at Hospital-C; f). The age of the participants in general correlates positively with items 5, 6 and 7; i.e., at an older age, the participants are more in agreement with the assertions of the above items; g). The results highlighted that the years of experience correlated positively with items 6 and 7 (rho = 0.143, p = 0.03 with item 6 and rho = 0.133, p = 0.05 with item 7); h). The years of work experience and the age of the participants are in turn strongly correlated (rho = 0.715, p = 0.0001); i). In relation to the “Working environment” dimension, the best results were associated with Hospitals A and C.
