Resumen

This paper investigates the design of a magnetic- locking system as main component of a passive exoskeleton. The proposed exoskeleton is aimed at aiding in specific extenuating holding tasks. The specific operation scenario is analyzed for calculating the interaction forces with a human upper limb. The proposed exoskeleton is defined with a four-degree-of-freedom RRRT (Revolute-Translation) kinematic chain. A magnetic- locking support mechanism has been developed to hold and release the mechanical system that assists the user in performing the holding tasks. Simulations are carried out to demonstrate the engineering feasibility of the proposed design. A preliminary prototype is reported as a first proof of the proposed concept design.
