Abstract

In this paper, the APRI (Action, Perception, Reflection and Intention) model and its use in three CSCL applications are presented. The model tackled the problem of the perceptive, cognitive and volition phase's organization raised when members are interacting in a group. The proposed model is based on a linear and sequential organization, which in collaborative situation leads to the emergence of four properties: inter-action, inter-perception, inter-reflection and inter-intention. In this work, APRI was used for measuring participant intentions in collaborative learning groups and it was also used by three different university student groups in three CSCL applications which promote different interaction styles such as: free, structure, natural language, and specialized language. Early results show that the model can be used to monitor participant intention and to see how difficult is to analyze all information implicit in an interaction.
