Abstract

Reviews or surveys of the state-of-the-art on any engineering subject usually refer to scientific literature: journal papers, books, letters, conference papers, book chapters, and so on, without considering the technological developments as patents and utility models. Thus, this paper focused on presenting a review on the technological developments of the rotary inverted pendulum. The review revels that patents and utility models of the rotary inverted pendulum correspond only to regulation control methods, a 3D modeling method, and experimental devices for science and teaching. The control methods are based on PID, fuzzy logic, and genetic algorithms that use digital processors, models or simulators. An important note is that all patents and utility models of the system under study are Chinese.
