Abstract

The mathematical tools employed in the whole book are introduced in this chapter: classical control tools for linear systems and Lyapunov stability analysis for nonlinear systems. A review of the passivity formalism is included and control of a permanent magnet brushed DC-motor is used as a simple example to describe the main steps of our novel passivity-based approach.
