Abstract
The present study shows the heterogeneity of informality in Mexico. It is exposed that the variables commonly mentioned as causes of the phenomenon influence differently in each region of the country, which denotes their diverse behavior. Through the study of microdata obtained from the Module of Socioeconomic Conditions (MCS) 2016, the behavior of the phenomenon and its main causes is presented. Later, with the help of logit-type dichotomous models, the probabilities of being informal for all regions of the country are estimated. The results indicate that the explanatory variables of informality have different influence on each region, which supports the initial assumption.
