Abstract

This work focuses in the design and implementation of a digital fuzzy controller, that uses a novel tuning technique called Simple Tuning Algorithm (STA) to achieve the desired controller's response. Improvements over exciting architectures to implement the Fuzzy Inference Systems (FIS) in a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) are presented. A methodology that minimizes the test and validation process is given. Experiments were done using a geared Direct Current (DC) motor; the control goal was to maintain the speed at a given value.
