Abstract

Robotics rehabilitation is a field of study which has proven to optimize therapy sessions. The thumb is one of the fingers most important for the human hand; the thumb gives us the ability to grasp and manipulate several kinds of objects. Due to the several activities in which it is involved, injuries are frequent. A mechanical design proposal for thumb rehabilitation using axial cams is presented. Through a pair of slot cams, the proposal focuses in mobilized the thumb through the flexion-extension and abduction-adduction movements. It is proposed that the mechanism be adaptable and not forced the thumb to follow a specific real trajectory.
