Resumen
Commelina coelestis, a plant that grows in cold climates, has been used since precolumbian times in México, to induce childbirth. The stimulating effect of chloroform, hexane, methanol and aqueous extracts on the uterus and ileum of Wistar rats was studied in vitro. The first two extracts had no activity on the smooth muscle, the aqueous extract increased the contractile frequency slightly, and the methanol extract increased the frequency and tension developed by muscles.
