N2 - We rewrite the theory of pion-nucleus multiple scattering in terms of two coupled integral equations which correspond to the possibilities that the pion be scattered separately by the protons or by the neutrons. We show that this separation is important at low energies in the case of light nuclei N=Z, and use the theory in the case of helium and carbon.
