Resumen

A number of industrial systems and consumer products currently in use are characterized by the actuator nonidealities, such as backlash, dead zone, and others, adversely affecting system performance. Consistently addressing these nonsmooth nonidealities, while also providing robust performance, has been a longstanding problem in the control of these plants. In this chapter, this problem is addressed through the nonsmooth H -output controller design, which takes into account the dead zone in the transmitted actuator signal. The nonsmooth H -output regulator is first developed for a servomechanism, driven by DC motor, where backlash effects occur in the servomechanism itself, and then it is applied to the experimentally obtained boiler/turbine model with actuator dead zone. The simulation results showing a considerable performance improvement are given.
