Resumen
In this work, we identified biotypes of Spodoptera frugiperda (Hübner) in maize host plants from seven regions in Mexico. PCR-RFLP was conducted to detect the cytochrome oxidase I mitocondrial gen (COI). Results indicated that 93.8% analyzed individuals belong to corn biotype, and 5.4% individuals belong to rice biotype. The presence of the corn biotype is consistent with the host plant, however such association is not absolute. More studies are required to clear the relation between biotype and plant host.
