Resumen

Three feeding stimulants (sucrose, powdered sugarcane, and Coax™) and three biodegradable polymers (gelatin, pectin and, modified cornstarch) were combined to produce granular formulations in order to identify the formulation most preferred by Diatraea saccharalis (F.) larvae. Larvae fed best on granules containing gelatin or pectin as polymers. The various feeding stimulants caused different effects, the strongest being powdered sugarcane, followed by sucrose and finally Coax™. Statistical analysis revealed that the formulations preferred by D. saccharalis larvae were a blend of modified cornstarch, gelatin, and powdered sugarcane.
