Resumen

The purpose of the work is to assess the influence of the deposition of a solid dispersion of ibuprofen (IBU) in polyninylpyrrolidone (PVP) over GalenIQ 721 and the disintegrant Croscarmellose (CC) on an IBU formulation. The powder flow rate, the compactability curves, the disintegration time curves and the dissolution profiles were determined in the components and in the tablets. The high powder flowability of GalenIQ 721 and the compactability of GalenIQ 721 and PVP improved IBU tablets. However, the solid dispersion of IBU hindered the dissolution of the drug, increasing the disintegration time of the tablets. Dissolution of the drug proceeded mainly from the tablet, gradually changing to dissolution from the particles and the tablet with increasing proportions of the disintegrant. The technological functionality of PVP and GalenIQ 721 and the dispersion of IBU in PVP improved its formulation but disintegration time turned out to be the limiting factor of drug dissolution.
