abstract = "The seed vigor plays a fundamental roll in the achievement of an adequate seedling emergence and crop establishment. The effect of the light produced by semiconductor laser on Zea mays L. seed vigor was studied. The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse of the IREGEP Seed Program of Post-graduated College (Mexico). A factorial of four intensities and four times of AsAIGa laser radiation at a wavelength of 660 nm (16 doses) was applied in pre-sowing to seeds from a single cross hybrid. The laser seed irradiation significantly (P< 0.05) increased seedling emergence rate, seedling dry weight and seedling soil emergence. The results of this study pointed to that, the optimum combination was an intensity of 10 mW/cm2 during 1 minute; this treatment originated significant (P≤0.05) increases in seedling emergence rate (33%), in dry weight (14.%) and seedling soil emergence (25%) with relation to the control (without irradiation). The seedling soil emergence in the second and third day was significantly increased (P< 0.05). From these results the laser irradiation seed enhancement technology on maize deserves further studies as a new method applied on environmental protection. Copyright",
