Resumen

This article reports the effect of addition of a disintegrant, Starch 1500, a soluble excipient, Pharmatose DCL 11 and an insoluble excipient, calcium phosphate on the dissolution of norfloxacin tablets. Flat-faced tablets with a diameter of 12.7 mm were compacted at a compaction pressure of 84 MPa. Dissolution of the tablets was carried out according to USP 23. Addition to the tablets of increasing concentrations of each one of the excipients increased the norfloxacin dissolution. Addition of mixtures of different proportions of Starch 1500 and Pharmatose DCL 11 showed a mutual inhibition of both excipients, while mixtures of Starch 1500 and calcium phosphate potentiated the individual effects to promote dissolution. The results were attributed to different water consume of the diluents as well as to differences to restrict or facilitate the movement of the particles in the tablet, after their interaction with water. The restriction created by the insoluble calcium phosphate allowed a better deployment of the disintegrant forces developed by Starch 1500, while the facilitation created by the soluble Pharmatose DCL 11 allowed their dissipation.
