Resumen
Milling of BaTiO3 + 3 wt% ZrO2 was carried out in an attritor and a planetary mill during different times. When milled in air, BaTiO3 decomposes into BaCO3 + TiO2 and a solid solution between TiO2 and ZrO2 is formed. The CO2 required to form BaCO3 is taken from the air. However, when a planetary mill with a degased and sealed container is used, the formation of a solid solution between BaTiO3 and ZrO2 occurs. In case of the system BaTiO3 + 3 wt % Y2O 3 the solid solution was formed by milling in a shaker mill (SPEX) in air. Annealing the milled mixture at 1000 °C produces YBa 3Ti2O8.5. This suggests that the solid solution of Y2O3 and BaTiO3 formed by mechanical alloying is oversaturated.
