Resumen
Toll rates are calculated to cover the investments in road maintenance and rehabilitation, and are exclusively established in terms of the number of axles in the vehicle and its configuration. Toll rates thus neglect the different levels of pavement damage potential associated with different levels of axle load and pavement temperature. In this paper a toll station is proposed that calculates toll rates as a function of the pavement damage potential of the vehicles. Different road-use scenarios are analysed, showing that differences in payload and pavement temperature induce pavement damage potential ratios of 40 to 1.
