Resumen

Geometrical moments have proven to be very nice features to describe a binary shape for its further recognition. In this paper, we present a new method based on morphological operations to compute these important features. For this, the shape is decomposed into a partition of disks under d8. Double summations used in the computation of the moments are substituted by the sum of the moments of each disk of the partition. It is shown that these last moments can be computed in terms of simple formulae function of the centers and radii of the disks and that the values obtained are exactly the same as if a double sum were used. Besides, once the partition is obtained, moment computation using this approach is very fast.
