Resumen

Employing the solid electrolitic cell Mo | MoO2 | ZrO2(MgO) | Fe(Ag), (FetO)slag | Fe, the thermodynamical behavior of iron oxide in hot metal pretreatment was studied. The studied systems were as follows: CaO-FetO, CaF2-CaO-FetO, CaCl2-CaO-FetO, CaF2CaO-SiO2-FetO, MgF2-MgO-SiO2-FetO, CaF2-MgF2-FetO y CaF2-MgO-FetO. Some of the findings are that the metallic fluorides have the tendency to increase the activity coefficient of FetO maintaining, consequently, a high chemical activity of this oxide even in conditions where its concentration is very low. On the other hand, CaF2 has the tendency to increase de FetO activity coefficient more than any other of the halides studied here. The physical chemical interactions among the halides and the oxides disolved in the studied slags considerably affect the slags basicities. Finally, the Ionic Conformed Theory based in the usage of interaction parameters among the different consituent ions in the slags, predicts considerably well the experimental results.
