Resumen

The coarsening rates of NiAl(β′) precipitates in ferritic FeNiAl and FeNiAlMo alloys were measured at 700°C in order to determine the interfacial energy σ. The Lifshitz-Slyozou-Wagner theory and the Brailsford-Wynblatt modification are used to analyze the ripening kinetics. When volume fraction effects are considered, the interfacial energy between the α matrix and the β′ precipitate was determined as 2 × 10-2 J m-2 in both alloys. X-ray diffraction results show that molybdenum increases the lattice parameter mismatch δ between the matrix and the precipitate to 0.81%. On the basis of the rather small variation in the interfacial energy σ, it is suggested that an increase in the coherency strains does not substantially alter σ as long as the precipitates remain coherent.
