N2 - C-9 aldehyde was found in Aloysia triphylla essential oil. It was tested on diarrhoeic mice induced with castor oil or magnesium sulphate. It was found that this compound diminished the number of diarrhoeic faeces at doses of 7, 14 and 28 μL. The highest effect was found with 14 μL. Also, the effect of this compound was evaluated on the intestinal transit of rats increased by castor oil. At the dose used, the intestinal transit was delayed in the first 30 min after administration of the cathartic agent.
