N2 - The aim of this document is to analyze the relationship between the establishment of Community Based Tourism (CBT) and multidimensional poverty reduction in rural households in Mexico. For this purpose, a study has been carried out through a sample of rural households atthe national level, between the years 2008 and 2018, using a multinomial logit model. The data were obtained from databases of poverty of the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy, and from databases of the National Household Income and Expenditure Survey. The findings suggest that the CBT is a tourism governance model that contributes to multidimensional poverty reduction in rural households in Mexico, emphasizing that the greatest effect is shown on multidimensional extreme poverty. Advancing from a condition of multidimensional extreme poverty to one of multidimensional moderate poverty constitutes a titanic change, not only because people can increase their ability to satisfy their basic food needs and their well-being, but also because their conditions of vulnerability are reduced.
