Resumen
A study was made on the polytropic behavior of a centrifugal compressor designed in the Laboratory of Applied Thermal Engineering. The study considers the use of real gas equations derived when the compressibility factor Z is considered. The work and the polytropic efficiency of the centrifugal compressor were calculated using thermodynamic relations. When the compressor was analyzed by means of this methodology it was determined that the polytropic efficiency calculated represented 40% of the design efficiency. Also, functions of compressibility X and Y have been obtained which contain mathematical relationships and can be drawn to obtain information on a given gas. When comparing the results obtained with the isentropic analysis it is concluded that it is important to include a correct value for the compressibility factor in the design of a centrifugal compressor.
