Algas marinas bentónicas asociadas a pecios y otras estructuras submareales de campeche, México

Thirty-two samples of marine algae inhabiting on 29 “pecios” and others subtidal structures of the Campeche Bay, Mexico, were obtained through scuba diving in June 2004 and July 2005. Results indicates the presence of 85 species from Campeche. Rhodophyta showed the greatest diversity with 47 species; Heterokontophyta and Chlorophyta both with 18 species, and finally Cyanophyta with two. Ten new records were located to Campeche: Ceramium cimbricum f. flaccidum, Spongoclonium caribaeum, Dasya hutchinsiae var. minor, Neosiphonia gorgoniae, Osmundaria obtusiloba, Gelidium corneum, Onslowia bahamensis, Padina antillarum, Blastophysa rhizopus and Halymenia elongata, the last species is also a new record for the Atlantic West coast of Mexico. Results indicated that a high species richness of seaweeds is related to “pecios” and others subtidal structures of the Campeche Bay.
