title = "Accident analysis of bus rapid transit units in Mexico City",
abstract = "The paper presents some preliminary results of the analysis of an accident that involved two BRT Units, a Vehicle transporting gas LPG, and a Minibus. The accident left over 15 injured and caused heavy disruption of vehicular traffic in the Capital City of Mexico. The approach has been the application of the {\textquoteleft}Events & causal factors chart{\textquoteright} and the {\textquoteleft}Barrier analysis{\textquoteright}. The main conclusions are the following: a). The immediate cause of the accident was that the LPG-Vehicle passed the red light; b). The drivers of the BRT-550 & 515 did not contribute directly to the accident; c). The bays that are used as physical {\textquoteleft}barriers{\textquoteright} for the BRT confined lines are {\textquoteleft}Less than adequate{\textquoteright}; d). The emergency response was adequate and efficient; and e). The accident was avoidable. Further research may be needed; for example by applying other accident analysis techniques.",
