N2 - We describe and illustrate Eryngium pugae I. García, J. Martínez-Ramírez & Ocampo as a new species to science. The new taxon grows near streams in places with open oak and oak-pine forests in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Eryngium pugae is morphologically related to E. gentryi, so a comparative table that includes characteristics of these two taxa is provided.
