N2 - A simple method to calculate the parameters of the absorption grating, the mean absorption, the absorption modulation and its phase shift with respect to the interference pattern, without involving the TWM is presented. The procedure is based on the typical first Fourier-expansion. Population gratings and photorefractive material were specially suitable for exemplifying our scheme.
