Abstract

Although the presence of virulence factors (both structural and extracellular components) in Vibrio vulnificus is well known, the pathogenesis of V. vulnificus infection has not been fully elucidated. We review the recent literature covering several of the virulence factors occurring in V. vulnificus (e.g., quorum-sensing elements, capsule, pili, flagella, RTX toxin, cytolysin/haemolysin, metalloprotease, lipase/lecithinase, nuclease, and siderophores).
