Abstract
Obesity is a common public health problem, affecting the quality of a person's life with a considerable impact as a risk factor in multiple diseases. Taking into consideration its multifactorial etiopathology, and its chronic behavior, urgent global actions have become necessary since one of its most critical problems is its treatment. In this scope we made a review of the main drugs that have been used and are currently used in the treatment of obesity, the recent genetic and neuroendocrine findings, as well as new perspective presented by certain research groups studying the efficacy and safety of new drugs under different phases of clinical trials.
