Abstract

The thermoeconomic optimization of some engine models is a very useful tool to find their economically optimum conditions by means of the maximization of the profit function defined as a characteristic function (power output, ecological function and others) divided by the operating total costs. Thermoeconomic analysis has been applied to single endoreversible engine models such as thermal and chemical ones. In the present work, this kind of analysis is applied to the array of endoreversible thermal engines proposed by De Mey and De Vos in 1994 [J. Phys. D: Appl. Phys. 1994;27:736-739]. In this case, the behaviour of the profit function is analogous to that for simple endoreversible models. We also use the thermo-economic methodology to analyze the performance of an array of endoreversible chemical engines [Ocampo-García et al. Physica A 2017;488:149-161]. This analysis leads to similar results as those obtained for simple endoreversible models. This kind of thermoeconomic optimization of engines models is useful to proportionate general clues on the performance of actual engines.
