Abstract

The syntheses of 3,3-dimethylenedithioaldehydes carring a CO2R, OTHP or OAc group at the w-position in lineal five-carbon chains are reported. The dithiolane group makes these compounds substitutes of the corresponding unstable β-ketoaldehydes as synthetic five-carbon building blocks.
