Abstract

Human beings are the main systems of any civilization. "Historically all civilizations evolved up to the level of their citizens" (Elgin Duane 1993). In fact, civilizations evolve following the evolution of its members. By understanding how the evolution process of individuals is carried out, it is possible to learn much about social evolution and consequently how such individual and collective evolution could be oriented consciously. Many authors have studied the process of human evolution such as, Elgin Duane 1993, Wilber Kent, 2001, among others. They have produced a body of knowledge about human evolution, but plurality of cosmovisions of the various authors makes hard to arrive at a unified theory or a set of principles generally accepted. In this paper, some fundamentals are presented regarding the evolutionary process, in order to make understandable that, in accordance with the level of consciousness reached so far by the mankind, conscious evolution might be possible, both individually and collectively.
