Abstract

The use of biopesticides has become an alternative to chemical pesticides for pest control in agriculture, and these biotechnological applications can contribute to sustainability. The purpose of this study was to define the scientific and technological trajectory of this area of knowledge. This purpose was accomplished by bibliometric analysis and keyword co-occurrence analysis based on information obtained from the Scopus database using the terms “biopesticides” and “sustainability.” A similar search was carried out in Patent scope to study patent applications. Regarding the scientific trajectory, nodes and clusters associated with both terms were found by network and statistical analyses, revealing the participation of different institutions, countries, academic journals, and other elements. Concerning the technological trajectory, the study shows the number of patent applications, countries, and applicant organizations, as well as the main technological sectors involved in the advancement of this area of knowledge.
