Abstract

This work describes two computer programs which were developed to calculate the irreversibilities generated by mechanic steam compression refrigeration systems. The first program called "REFRIG" saves from a multiple card data acquisition the temperature and pressure measurement readings in the inlet and outlet of every systems component. This program also plots the value of temperature and pressure as a function of time. The second program called "ANALIZADOR" uses the "REFRIG" database to calculate the thermodynamics properties and to calculate the irreversibilities in the different system's components. The refrigeration system in which "REFRIG" and "ANALIZADOR" were tested, worked with refrigerant R-134a, to cool water. The water flow rate was 0.5 l/s. The irreversibilities generated were for the compressor, 1.35 kW; for the condenser, 0.69 kW; for the evaporator, 0.28 kW; for the suction line, 0.16 kW; for the expansion valve, 0.071 kW; for the blast line. 0.022 kW and for the liquid line, 0.010 kW. These irreversibilities reach a total of 2.58 kW. Power drop due to irreversibilities reached 83 %. Thus these computer programs proved to be reliable tools to calculate the irreversibilities and to give data support for improving the energy use.
