Abstract

In this research the synthesis and characterization of polyethylene/phosphors composites were studied. Organic and inorganic phosphors were blended in low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and later, thin films were deposited by means of the dip coating technique. The optical, structural and luminescent properties of the films were studied. All the composites were prepared from pristine polyethylene, which seems to be easily scalable to waste-polyethylene and high volumes. FTIR measurements showed that the polyethylene/phosphors composites were properly synthesized; UV–Vis allowed to characterize the transparency of the LDPE matrix after the incorporation of the phosphors. Finally, a complete luminescent study was carried out to characterize the optical properties of the composites and the possibility to use them in technological applications.
