Abstract

Cognitive radio wireless networks is an emerging communication paradigm to effectively address spectrum scarcity challenge, where spectrum sharing enables the secondary unlicensed system to dynamically access the licensed frequency bands in the primary system. Given the pervasive use of wireless networks, and the increasing use of video services and social networks it is expected that cellular networks, curse some of its traffic to Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems. In this work, an underlay cognitive radio system is studied where a cellular system is assumed to be the primary network while the P2P system acts as a secondary network. Numerical results are presented to explore the impact of key system parameters on performance metrics like the delay and the percentage of successful downloads.
