Abstract

The 2006 Fryxell Award for Interdisciplinary Research was granted to Oscar J. Polaco by the Society of American Archeology. A symposium honoring the career and work of the awardee includes this brief presentation of his accomplishments in more than 25 years of research, teaching, and service. His key contributions include 149 scientific publications and the mentoring of over 30 students in subjects as diverse as archeozoology, paleontology, malacology, mammalogy, and acarology; a key role in the development of the Mexican legislation that protects the paleontological resources of the country, as well as an extensive editorial work in all these areas of knowledge.
