Abstract

One formulation to automatically compute the number of holes of a 2-D binary object is introduced in this paper. This formulation is useful for both 4-connected and 8-con-nected objects. The correctness of the functioning of the formulation is also established theoretically. Results with a set of images are provided to demonstrate the utility and validity of the proposed formulation. To end up, our proposal is compared with other methods reported in literature to emphasize its advantages.
