Abstract

Obsidians characterized by low content in iron oxides (less than 2. 2% in weight) were studied by Moessbauer spectroscopy showing that they contain free Fe**2** plus and Fe**3** plus ions in various amounts and also small Fe//3O//4 amorphous particles whose average size is likely to be larger in the Teotihuacan obsidian.
