Abstract

Requirements for calculations in the design and behavior of flow at entrance and exit of turbo-machinery, include information about changes in the different thermodynamic relationships and energy changes, according to the limits imposed by the system barrier. These may be analyzed by means of the two-dimensional or three-dimensional theory, taking into account the angular flow variations. As far as the energy transformation occurs through adiabatic flow processes, the kinetic, potential and thermal energy forms are in constant change. In order to analyze a non-stationary state system, in connection with another one assumed under a stationary flow condition, the object system may be transformed into relative and absolute sections. In both cases, transformation of energy is considered quasistationary. The definition of kinetic energy of the flow through the blade cascade allows development of the meridional flow configuration method, which may include up to three dimensions, taking into account the entrance and exit flow conditions in its axial and radial direction, or even in a mixture of them. The simultaneous characterization of both a fixed-blade cascade and a tangential-speed rotatory one, is useful in the formulation of a turbomachine step, allowing the evaluation of a number of variables.
