Abstract

Additions of 0.03 % and 0.06 % niobium to an Al-3Mg alloy refined the microstructure, improved the tensile properties, and decreased the loss of weight due to salt spray corrosion, of the plain alloy. The effect of niobium on the loss of weight by wearing and by corrosion under dynamic conditions was negligible. Corrosion in the alloys with Nb was more uniform in both type of corrosion tests.
