Abstract

We present a preliminary checklist of lignicolous macrofungi from the Sierra Norte de Puebla, Puebla, Mexico. For this purpose, we conducted eight field trips during 2009 and 2010, and reviewed all specimens from the study area deposited in the fungus collection of the herbarium of the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biologicas, Instituto Politecnico Nacional. In addition, we analyzed altitudinal distribution as well as for vegetation type. A total of 176 specimens belonging to 95 species were recorded for the zone; 39 are new records for the region, and one specimen probably is a new species. The results indicate the importance of continuing to carry out fungal inventories that could be a reliable base for future ecological studies and to propose conservation plans for wood decay fungi.
