Abstract
The Kosakonia genus is part of the Enterobacteria complex, and it has been associated to plant growth-promoting bacteria. In this chapter, we describe the molecular taxonomy of the Kosakonia genus, using genome sequencing and conserved molecular characteristics such as the conserved signature insertions/deletions. The taxonomic hierarchy of the Kosakonia genus is described and the new classification proposal of Enterobacteria, including Kosakonia, is shown. In addition, the identification of the Kosakonia genus by biochemical tests and bioassays is established from data obtained from published works. On the other hand, the contributions of the Kosakonia genus to the promotion of plant growth are addressed, and the molecular studies of the Kosakonia-plant interaction are described. This chapter provides a general and detailed overview on the progress and contribution of the Kosakonia genus to the promotion of plant growth for the understanding of the benefits of the Kosakonia genus in agriculture.
