Kinetic study of boron diffusion in the paste-boriding process

Abstract

Experimental data from the paste-boriding process during growth of a Fe2B layer have been used to estimate the diffusion coefficient of boron in Fe2B based on a kinetic model obtained from the mass balance and considering thermodynamic equilibrium at the Fe2B/α interface during growth. A diffusivity of boron in Fe2B was obtained: DFe2B = 1.311 × 10-6 exp(- 151 × 103 kJ/RT) (m2 s-1) for 1223 K < T < 1323 K.
