Abstract

Details damage assessment and rehabilitation of Mexico's Cuidad Pemex-La Isla 24-inch sour gas pipeline. Magnetic flux leakage in line inspection devices (pigs) and field external non-destructive measurements were carried out. Assessment of safety reduction from mechanical and weld defects was determined according to fitness for service procedures in API RP 579. Corrosion defects were assessed with deterministic approaches given in the modified ASME B31G code as well as via structural reliability studies. Risk analysis established rehabilitation priorities. The assessment revealed, among other findings, that in-line inspection data are not always accurate and that metal loss by corrosion was the principal integrity issue.
