Abstract

In this paper, we propose a model for retrieving and visualizing spatial data by means of Web-Mapping technology and Extensible Markup Language (XML). The model is based on three-tier architecture, in which the following components are included: Web Mapping Server (WMAS), Application Map Server (AMS) and an applet embedded into XML page. These components interact as a Graphical User Interface (GUI) using a browser-client. This technology has been integrated into GIS-application, which is focused on retrieving spatial data and presenting them in the web.
