Abstract

White blood cell segmentation is one of the most important and complex tasks in medical computer image analysis. In this article, we propose a simple, efficient, straightforward, and consistent algorithm that does not require high-performance processing hardware such as GPUs or TPUs for white blood cell segmentation in blood and bone marrow smear images. The performance of the novel method is tested with 2371 images, which no other state-of-the-art method has done. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method outperforms several state-of-the-art methods.
