Abstract

Approximately 80% of the present world energy demand comes from fossil fuels (Das and Veziroglu, 2001). Unlike fossil fuels, hydrogen gas burns cleanly, without emitting any environmental pollutants (Fields, 2003). In addition, hydrogen is abundantly available in the universe and possesses the highest energy content per unit of weight (that is, 120.7 kJ/g) compared to any of the known fuels and could have an important role in reducing environmental emissions (Haryanto et al., 2005).
