Abstract

Hydrotalcite like-materials with different chemical composition, i.e., Mg-Al and Mg-Al-M, where M = Ga and Ca, were prepared by co-precipitation method at constant pH. Their catalytic properties were evaluated in the transesterification reaction where triglycerides are transformed in the presence of methanol to obtain biodiesel. The FAME products were analyzed by GC using internal standard method. A conversion > 95% was achieved after 4 hr of reaction. A small quantity of glycerol byproduct was also obtained. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 7th European Congress of Chemical Engineering-7 and 19th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering CHISA (Prague, Czech Republic 8/28/2010-9/1/2010).
